(Opava 1904 - 1941 Athens)
Viktor Planckh was born in Opava in today's Czech Republic which was Austrian Silesia back then. The family moved to Vienna because of the fathers profession as an officer some years later. Here in Vienna Viktor Planckh studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule (school of arts and crafts) from 1921 until 1926. He was a member of the artist group "Hagenbund" from 1927 to 1938. Viktor Planckh worked in different techniques and painted not only oil paintings but also water colors, gouaches and ink drawings and he made some terra-cotta and bronze sculptures too. His figurative compositions and landscapes are characterized by a certain clarity and simplicity, because of this manner of painting Viktor Planckh gets close to the Neo Realism. In addition the artist worked as a fresco painter which suited him well because of his tendency to spacious creations.
